I'm having trouble finding the point of this scattered and jumbled history. Ancient Egypt had a Dark Ages? So?
We've already backed up 600 years from 1177, and there's plenty of civilization spread all over Europe, Asia, & Africa. Even if Egypt is having a bad stretch, it seems there are plenty of other options for human civilization to thrive even if Egypt failed to rebound.

Over halfway through the book and we have been hundreds of years away from 1177 for the most of it, most recently making digressions into the Trojan War and Exodus.
