In the middle of the Curse of Colleagues chapter and the book seems to improve once Koehler is not talking about himself. I know it won't last but I can enjoy it for what it is.

This book is unbelievably bad. I now have more respect for George R R Martin. It's obviously better for a writer to spend 15+ years not writing his next book if the alternative is spending that time on this bloated, incoherent mess.

I hate this book!!! But importing it from the US cost, what, $90? Still unsure 'why' I'm reading it...

Having survived the first chapter, I'm changing my tune - this is fantastic. I can only stomach a few pages a day, but Gass is winning me over.

This might be one of the strangest books I've ever read. I don't like it at all, but every so often Gass has a brilliant passage...

I’m reading this too and I am finding the mixture of a grotesque, arguable antagonistic attack on the reader ( Koehler basically asking the reader “are you sure you want to keep digging?”; and such intentionally perfect writing sprinkled in throughout captivating, this is definitely one of the most demanding books I have ever read, one being so full of texture.
