McCay's usage of the Stargate as a mere vehicle to talk about racism, backwards Third World Countries and evil corporations who take advantage of the innocent natives remains unimaginative and boring.
This smells more of a clumsy episode of Star Trek than it does Stargate. There is no grandeur, wonder or inherent alienness. There's so much that could be skipped over to get to something with teeth.

McCay takes a very different track from the eventual creators of SG-1 in terms of what happens next; but he makes the same fatal error in diminishing the awe of the Stargate. It is made mundane and commonplace, to be dismissed out of hand as a mere transporter.
