The opening of the book deals primarily with crossing Jordan and a couple subsequent battles to secure the promised land. Narratively a lot more engaging than much of the Torah, which makes sense. Yet also follows and satisfies implicitly on the necessity of obedience and faith, so thematically it still fits together.
