It’s interesting to me how painfully relatable Raif Efendi is. He is directionless and passionless and despite how uneventful his life was, it is still griping to read about because his perspective is so vulnerable and real. He is not the typical protagonist who knows theit objective, what they should do, what should happen. He is just a regular human just like me.

Raif Efendi has the tendency to run with his imaginations and when reality doesn’t meet them, he tends to deflate. Another relatable thing. Madonna in a fur coat being a painting he is entranced by is interesting and how he describes its beauty as meeting every woman in one. I think I can see why he’s so drawn by it.

Explaining the complicated situation of Raif Efendi’s family dynamics really speaks a lot on why he seems to lack passion and motivations in life. And he’s very self-aware of how he’s viewed as a walking wallet and nothing else, not even human. The main protagonist is right to be upset on his behalf because he even approves of how he is disrespected. I understand why he’s so curious about him.

I wasn’t about what I was expecting. Initially, I thought the main protagonist is a woman so I was viewing the book from a woman’s lens and it turned out he’s a man who has piqued interest with his co-worker. Not anything romantic, at least, from my end. But just curious fascination I suppose. I’m enjoying it so far, especially having no idea what’s it about.
