I'm finding that one of the worst (best) things about this book is how much Winn makes me smile at the friendships and camaraderie that the boys have with not only each other but their school friends and fellow soldiers. Even during the darkest moments, these men find some respite from the horrors by sharing jokes, and it makes the aforementioned horrors even more gut-wrenching.
