the playfulness fran ross has for language is so refreshing (also tedious at times but whatever). a reminder that words aren't just there to move from one plot point to another. it's like when i first watched IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE and thought, wow we really do not appreciate color photography enough because look at how wong kar-wai so clearly pays attention to it in this movie.

these are the funniest children: “One day Jimmie C. came to Oreo and said gently, “Suffer the little children to come unto me.” This was his derivative way of asking her to gather all the kids on the block for a special outing.”
