OK, it definitely picked up once the game started to go supposedly hunt it down by the judge, or at least kill by the Yuma natives. The kid is pretty cool, especially when the judge starts hunting him down. honestly I don’t know where this is gonna go from here…

Glanton sends his dudes into a town, they all get arrested bc they’re menaces, and Glanton starts interrogating like the mayor or someone of the town about where they are

As always, the judge is platitudes and vocabulary is always mesmerizing to listen to. Also dude said war is the ultimate game of life, and that games are infinitely more honorable than work and are how humans are to be judged, that morality is a weak man’s game, etc. Also don’t be fooled he’s not like a macho man he’s just a psycho (though hes a genius and big as hell)

They save dr., rape natives, move on

Glanton Gang massacres a merchant group of Natives while moving along a cliffside such that they all fall down the mountain bleeding everywhere.

They go into another Mexican town and are treated as heroes for bringing the Native scalps as proof of their chivalrous, valorous, honorable, and no doubt heroic work!

As with The Road, I’m again warming up to McCarthy’s prose style (read aloud, in the audiobook, not reading directly off the page!!!). It’s kind of satisfying in its gritty yet poetic feel.

Judge has killed another kid, and that’s particularly bad despite the previous day the entire gang massacred the native village savagely? Probably implicit that he raped him too tho…

He’s still def interesting…

More traveling along the road in Mexico presumably heading southward, plenty of more gore to highlight the brutality of the frontier…

The story picks up with the focus on the judge. Him and his buddy in Europe, learning customs & languages makes him interesting. He’s like a bizarre super intelligent demon, also HE killed that boy? I didn’t clock that while walking in the rain, listening to the audiobook, lol

Cormac McCarthy loves writing about dirty dusty crusty musty sandy nasty bloody gritty stuff huh
