I get the fear Gabriel has to show any interest in his Rwandan identity although I believe his father is actually not the one he should fear reprisal from. His mother is the one refusing him that identity. Asserting that he is a Rwandan might also seem like a rejection of his European side and that might hurt his father, but not make him angry at him me thinks
