In northanger abbey, Catherine talks about how central England + England as a whole would never murder because it’s a Christian country, but it was written in 1790’s + the slave trade was going on in Britain since 1562 + Liverpool was the biggest slave port. I would say cognitive dissonance or integrity didn’t extend to their treatment of black people. Either that or it’s rewriting history.

“Whether racism was discrimination or discrimination plus power, being in the position to negatively affect other people’s life chances”. You come across some white people in such positions who can fatally harm you, you feel something is wrong, trust me, just get out.

Liverpool’s was the biggest slave port, how sad is that. Since 7th century, my Prophet (SAWS) said to free slaves.

“Every voice raised against racism chips away at its power”. Remember our Prophet (SAWS) said there is no superiority in race 🤍

People of colour, non white, I don’t really personally adhere to the semantic part for this terminology. I remember a few months ago someone tried to, definitely a paid post, say the word disabled is bad which is a reach, but the whole point is that disabled people are referred to as disabled, it gets the most reach so trying to assign another term is to try + limit reach. It was obviously illogical + manipulation.

She talks about how ‘nice white people’ are used as shields, which you do see ‘what about this person? If you speak, this nice white person could’, but they are just shields, instead of just listening + making changes.

She talks about how if she speaks, she faces consequences, painted with racist tropes that threaten their safety (for Muslim equivalent, it’s other tropes that we could be subjected to then which are basically, well, phobic) + they use their influence, ability + others to rewrite history + make lies the truth.. I would say because they can, but ultimately dua of the oppressed + eventually God intervenes

Never had to think about.. I think there’s been far too much history in general that we learn in school to know there is ‘unconscious bias’ prevalent hence history wouldn’t have happened.

Gonna reread this, see how I feel now because I read it so long ago and opinions change or adapt, we’ll see.
