Dorothea is so straight. I find her funny, I love my characters humorous.
' They were pamphlets about the early church. The oppression of Celia, Tantripp and sir James was shaken off, and she walked straight to the library'
Well Dorothea that was pretty easy🤣
I know it is going to be a great read when it makes me laugh.

I interepret that she is saying self satisfaction leads to stop questioning yourself and therefore it stop yourself from growing intellectually and real wisdom.
With which I totally agree! But I think a healthy sense self satisfaction is also important to grow and learn more. It also prevents you from getting too stressed about yourself.

Haha yes Eliot and Dodo share much in common when it comes to character and intellectual bpreoccupations, I think. Eliot believed the novel as a form was a powerful instrument for moral good in the world. She felt art in general should expand a person's lived experience and increase their compassion for others. That's why she centers thoroughly ordinary (or what she took to be thoroughly ordinary) characters, and why her "villains" are complex and nuanced, rather than just plain evil. She used her novels to capture real lives as they were really lived, and hoped to spark good feeling and moral behavior in readers.
I see. This is my Elliot so I don't know much about her yet. Thankyou!!
