Ummm, the chainsaw was off and the engine cold when she woke up, but now suddenly the chainsaw was on when she passed out. I’ve never used a chainsaw so I don’t know if maybe they can only run while actively being used, like maybe there’s something you have to hold to keep it on? But how would she know it was running when she passed out if she doesn’t remember passing out? It was off when she woke up.

I don’t know anything about the Philly area, or any big cities at all. But I have a hard time believing that his school in the big city was small with one class per grade. And now moving out to the sticks, his school is much bigger?

THEIR mother? So what, she’s her husband’s mother now too?

His eyes were already open, how else would Nate know they were glassy?

I fucking hate this. I hate when I’m interested in the storyline but the editor can’t edit. The mistakes, the inconsistencies, the PARENTHESES. It just fucks with the immersion.

No. Please. After The Staircase in the Woods, which was an awesome story but had terrible writing, I wasn’t going to read anymore Wendig. But I grabbed this one from the library at the same time and it was already here. I figured it couldn’t be worse. But EVERY PAGE IS A NIGHTMARE.

“The Graves family was GONNA move.” That’s fine in dialogue. But HERE? The narrator?! Oh my fucking god I’m gonna scream.

People do not speak in parentheses. PEOPLE DO NOT SPEAK IN PARENTHESES.

Someone take the fucking parentheses away from Chuck. For the love of all that is fucking holy.
