This is a good little book so far, but it's far from my favorite T. Kingfisher. The MC is too isolated (her side characters are my favorite!), and the closest thing to an animal companion she has is a (probably) rabid raccoon.

At first i was like “yay, a raccoon!” And then i was like “oh…oh no…”

I'm halfway through and this is the scariest thing in the book so far. That's not a diss. I'm traumatized from the rabies episode of Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman from my childhood.
