This is a gentle and powerful book all at once. The translator is right in the introduction when he says Rilke writes as though language is uncontained within sentences. His words flow and drip from the page into my mind. His philosophies are also intertwined with unity of opposites from eastern religious traditions. Really making clear that grief is love.

"... the worst things, and even despair, are only a kind of abundance... an onslaught of existence that one decision of the heart could turn into its opposite. Where things become truly difficult and unbearable, we find ourselves in a place already very close to its transformation." - Rilke to Anita Forrer (1920)
