She still comes across as kind of irresponsible, tho.

Wells showing up at the bachelor party is admittedly hilarious-hilarious enough to get over the prologue.

Gwyn's still not my favorite heroine, but it would be unfair to really hate her because let's face it, we've seen worse.

I mean, Gwyn is, after all, self-sacrificing and seems to have developed a more realistic view of her own abilities since her college days.

In retrospect, considering that Gwyn is an actual witch getting her ghost-hunting cues from IN-UNIVERSE works of fiction (that reference to the show Supernatural), the too-cool for magic school attitude she displayed in the prologue is a bit more grating than it should be.

She's probably intended to come off plucky and humorous, but the real effect is that Gwyn looks incompetent and arrogant.

Also, falling into Fourth Wing's trap where we use the male lead as the deliverer of consequences for our heroine's less-than-perfect behavior.

Which is kind of...smells a bit misogynistic.

No, she mostly just cares about how it affects HER, whether it makes HER look bad.

She also acts like she's too cool for magic school while at the same time demonstrating that she doesn't really have much control over her powers.

But it's alright since the story doesn't seem to want me to pretend college!Gwyn is a good person. She gets called out on it indirectly by having her sister call her a show-off, and-

So far, the heroine, Gwyn, is kind of an arrogant asshole. Or at least her college-age self is.

Her main concern appears to be showing off her powers and she doesn't really care about how her actions affect other people (a.k.a. will my professor, who admittedly can get rid of my tiny dinosaur, be hurt if it manages to bite her foot?)
