I’m going to be seriously disappointed if the exact circumstances that lead Suttree to flee his life and hide in a riverboat are fully explained. The current amount of backstory is perfectly sufficient. Less I know the better?

Sutree’s sorta psychedelic vision quest chapter was incredible. That chapter existing in the same book as Harrogate’s endless comedy of errors makes this book so unique and strange. A grab bag of almost opposing emotional temperatures? But all these episodes have some kind of magical cohesion? Definitely never read a book like this before and I’m cherishing it. Social outsiders get into all kinds of shit

Loving this book so far. Reading very slowwwwllyyy Savoring.

Sut just got shitfaced, his buds took good care of him cuz their community is built on support and kindness, but then Sut’s existential shame led to him sleeping under a strangers’ bed and puking all over and then contemplating some real dark abstract shit.

Harrowgate will probably be back at some point? Love that prospect
