Well, it took a while, but we finally have some interiority from Helena.
And now we meet Kaine.

Some of the political worldbuilding is interesting, genuinely. Still, SenLinYu usage of some words isn't hitting the ear right.

I need stronger sensory detail. The wrist-stabbing scene, while meant to be horrifying, is delivered clinically.

The author is using some of the same descriptors within the same sentences or paragraph multiple times.

Up front, there's quite a few sentences where SenLinYu defines something with a simple, short description that the reader can infer everything else from, but then adds an unnecessary and longer explanation.

I'm aware of this book's origins and its content. I'm reading it to see if it actually stands on its own, removed from its source material.
