Here's a stress test for the book's internal continuity. The bite turned out to be harmless if we took the other path; what happens if we regard the bite seriously as an injury?

Chasing the monster snake up the tree to save the cat it nabbed seems foolish, but let's see where this takes us.

So far this book doesn't match its title or promotional styling. It's been less about killer snakes and more a general paranormal tale set at the edge of the Florida Everglades.

More plot strangeness. How did we get home, why was Zelda there, and who was the swimming ghost boy? We need better answers than this ending.

Is the glowing boy a ghost as Airboat Ed tells us later? Now's our chance to follow up on the lead in person, before the boy gets away.

Not only is this ending very premature, it's confusing. The in-story text doesn't say word one about that glowing boy showing you the way to get home. I hope this is the book's only dud ending, but reaching it first doesn't leave me optimistic.

We came out here trying to rescue that pet cat from the snake. We can't go tromping off into the glades at night in pursuit of every weird phenomena we see.

It seems unwise to scale the tree while the monster snake is up in it. For the moment, my feet are staying planted on the grass.

I'm not wild about either of these options, but we don't know anything about the cat that disappeared. Let's contact the Everglades guide and see if he can help us figure out where to start tracking down our missing dog.

I almost chose to call Animal Rescue, but if my dog is right outside and being killed by a Burmese python—and I can stop the attack—I'll never stop asking "What if?" should my phone delay be the difference between life and death. Let's go, Jack, with that baseball bat!

This is (to date) the last of three books in the Chooseco Choose Your Own Nightmare reboot, inaugurated in 2014. Snake Invasion, released in 2016, is by Choose Your Own Adventure veteran Doug Wilhelm. The book is illustrated by Vladimir Semionov, but for whatever reason Gabhor Utomo was retained to do the cover art. It's a pretty good depiction of you immersed in snakes.
