The comparison of John Gottman’s contempt in marriages to contempt in our political culture is SO insightful. The republicans and democrats each feeling as though they are driven by benevolence while the other side is driven by evil and hate. Contempt is the “unsullied conviction of the worthlessness of another.” 😭
