Shannon is supposed to be in her 40s, a soon-to-be-grandma, a woman who has faced horrible loss, but she reads like, well, Generic Character A. And Maya is just Generic Character B. I'm almost falling asleep...

I'm just not feeling the relationship between these two. And the dialogue can be so awkward. After Shannon says she'll always wonder about pregnancy, Maya says, "I had a miscarriage. And to answer your question about pregnancy, it was amazing. And heartbreaking." Uh????
