Two things:
1.6th graders are 11 years old, not 13. Sometimes 12 depending on their birthday.
2. This '13 year old' acts like she's 8 years old. And they're treating her like it.
The office secretaries did what they could for Susan, telling her stories and giving her small bits of candy. And whenever the little girl began feeling down, Jaime reminded her about the good things in life.
