It deeply bothers me when authors don't make word choices that align with the personality of the character or the time period in which the story takes place. "She cried" would have been a far better selection, since I can't imagine a meek woman in the 1800s just up and SHOUTING.

First of all, has no one heard of annulments?? They did exist at the time, and if "I couldn't tell who I was marrying" isn't a valid cause for annulment, I don't know what is.
