It'd be one thing if hers were books demanding time to be read and understood, but that isn't really it: Although every word is well chosen, it's also very repetitive; you often read the same metaphor again and again without gaining a new understanding of it, while actual explanations of a magic system are completely absent.

The constant POV switches (like every 3 pages on average) are way less annoying on the second read when I have a idea of what's going on with the story and characters

I've been wondering what's stopping to fully immerse in McLemore's books and I believe to have grasped it: McLemore just has no chill at all. There aren't sentences where things are simply easy, funny or just happening; no, every word has to have depth(TM), meaning (TM) and magical imagery (TM) and to constantly deal with that while reading is exhausting.
