It turns out this is an Orientalist argument against the use of the passive which cites the descriptive nature of Chinese ideograms unmodified for tense, case, or mood as a preferable to the English habit of phrasing (i.e. "[noun phrase] is [adjective phrase]" or "[noun phrase] is [verb phrase]" or "[noun phrase] is [noun phrase]").
