Amazing feminist thinking by a young girl seeing what really goes on in some evil Catholic marriages! These women are trapped and cannot escape. The grandmother doesn't help the situation at all pretending that the nightmare marriages are like the mumps or the measles. It is amazing that she is so smart and has such insight.

"Oh, c'mon," Donna says, "let's try." I'm dwelling too much on my parents fighting and want something to distract me. "Let's do it," I say. "We can imagine something sinful we've done - or might do - and then wash each other's feet and see if we feel atoned," I suggest with more enthusiasm than I feel.

I got this today on interlibrary loan from New York state! I started reading it while waiting for my Chinese food and then continued at the doctor's office. It is most amusing so far.
