This is my first intimate encounter with Wisława Szymborska's work. Her poems enthrall me. They are full of symbols and references to the antic world and written in beautiful language. It is hard to move on from one poem to the next, as I always have the feeling of having not fully understood, of having overlooked something essential.

I was absolutely delighted to discover that you are reading two books by Polish authors at the same time, Peter. Just like you, I adore Wisława Szymborska's poems. I agree with your interesting remark on a feeling of strange insufficiency - you end up asking yourself: and that's it?! Her poems look so deceivingly simple at first sight. Have a wonderful time with Szymborska's poetry.
