I had a feeling that references to the pandemic would start to appear in books... I really wish it hadn't, though. It's bad enough living it, without it also seeping into my escapism reading. *sigh*

Jennifer☠Pher☠ Ugh, really? I've seen some authors firmly state they will not write about it but I guess if you are an author that writes from experience it'll happen. I don't want it either.

Debra ~~ seriously slacking on her reviews ~~ Yeah. I'm not ready for pandemic references when we're still in the middle of it, but I'm also aware of people writing reviews on books saying it's set in 2020 but no reference to a pandemic. I guess the authors can't win either way on this, but I'm with you on not wanting it now.

Yup. Every reference to ''oh, I've got to put my mask on!" takes me right out of the narritive and throws me back in the real world. Not. A. Fan.

Yeah, I'm not liking it, at all. I'm trying to get past it enough to enjoy the story. Hopefully I'll be able to. 20% in and it's still just so THERE!

I guess they can't... it's like a 3rd MC in this book and I suspect it would be that way in ANY book because you can't have a goddamn conversation without a goddamn mask and you can't just assume the characters are wearing them, they have to call attention to them Every. Goddamn. Time.

Maybe I need more coffee lol

We can hope! lol

Jan I couldn't agree more.
In a way it gives that heavy vibe of dystopia. 😖
Hope I am wrong.

So far, this story doesn't feel particularly dystopian, to me...just too much unpleasant reality. But it's early, yet...I'm only 20% in.

Jan Sorry , Jewell, my comment was totally biased since I don’t like dystopian 😬
Let’s hope for the best. 🤞🏻

No, no!! I totally get it! I'm feeling pretty biased at the moment, myself haha.

Ele The only thing that takes my mind off this mess we are in is reading. Imagine if said mess suddenly starts to appear in my books too. Hard pass.

I hear ya!

Just no. No, no, no. I can believe it pulls you out, it freaking pulls me out of real life when I HAVE TO PUT MY MASK ON. Ugh.

Jewel Right? I never thought I'd miss 2019 haha

I'm reading along and hit about 30% and the story picks up and things are happening and for 5 fucking minutes I forgot about covid and RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE of an otherwise pretty cool scene -- a pandemic reference. *sigh*
