Note to lines 939-940: "If I correctly understand the sense of this succinct observation, our poet suggests here that human life is but a series of footnotes to a vast obscure unfinished masterpiece."

Nabokov, you cheeky rascal.

Wild that I've read something like 50 cumulative pages, but only advanced 7 pages from where I left off. This is a three-bookmark book, and I'm on pages 174, 192, and 260 all at once.

This book is a lot of immersive fun. Like House of Leaves and other texts that play with footnotes, it's difficult to track my actual progress since it's nonlinear. But I feel like a detective, ferreting out clues and following leads. Wheee, the game is afoot!

Doing it for the scratch-off gold! You gotta make your own fun - but I wonder... would I be as excited to start a new book without a scratchy-scratchy Pavlovian reward to it?
