◾In April 1204, she died, perhaps at Poitiers or, as most historians now think, at Fontevraud Abbey, near Chinon, where she had frequently resided during her life. ◾She was buried at Fontevraud alongside her second husband Henry and—perhaps more importantly to Eleanor—her son Richard the Lionheart.

◾As the rebellion progressed, it became ever more obvious to King Henry and to other leaders of the day that Eleanor was highly involved.
◾According to Gervase of Canterbury, she fled in disguise as a man—yet another disreputable choice from a medieval perspective. She hoped to reunite with her sons, but despite her disguise, Eleanor was captured on her way to Chartres and held as a prisoner at Chinon.
