Eli Goh > Status Update

This is the part which put me off reading the book last time.

"Philosophical ideas must be applicable on the ground, and the field should be their only judge, their only criteria."

Reading Chapter 2 of the book, makes me wonder if it was President Obama instead of Reagan, would things have been better? Would the UN's commitment to impartiality be upheld?

Parts of the book that are I could relate are:

"Jamieson urged him to be sure to distinguish the interests of the UN, his place of employment, from the interests of refugees, his reason for working"

and

"Sergio, you've got to cool it, It is natural that you don't want to wait until jobs are offered to you, but you are starting to get a reputation for being one who spends his time plotting his next move.

Sergio's last words were "Oh shit,", uttered with acceptance of the inevitable: the explosion that sent the temporary office falling flat like a pancake. If I were in his shoes, I would probably have uttered the same thing too.

I decided to read this book again!
