Some of this just isnt working.
I detest how the story is being told to us. This back and forth with the present day "history keeper" who keeps reminding him "tell the story like to a child"
AKA us the reader, how creative/s.
But then it time skips which goes against the point of this story telling device.
and there's barely vampires!
and the MC is really unlikable!

Ok, YES, in hindsight the description does make this clear. BUT I cant believe this is one of those "Let me sit down and tell you my story."
Can good books still come out of this? Yes, but Im so tired of this trope.
Just write the damn story in 1st person from the beginning.

Haha! That’s a good way of doing it! Sometimes that’s a sign of DNF’ing a book. Or is it just a slow section fir you?
