This book is a glorious piece of historical fiction and it hurts not be able to share any quotes because the prose is haunting and so sharp it physically hurts.
It’s like someone combined Stella Riley’s mastery of historical details with Judith Ivory’s knack for writing polarising characters, and then added a pinch of E. Brontë’s angst and gloominess…so obviously this is catnip for me. & swoony romance.

The Hero if this book is Heathcliff, if he’d joined the army and become an colonel.

This is insane, would make 80s romance novels blush
