I’ve been saying for years now that I needed to start reading Dickens as all I’ve read of his work prior was A Christmas Carol and some of his short stories. Time to finally start one of his novels. We’ll see how this goes. :)

More than halfway done now. Thus far an enjoyable read. Best aspects are the side-characters and humor (which I gather are more prominent in Dickens’s other works which bodes well for me enjoying other works even more). Taking a slight break from it over the weekend but will hopefully finish it next week.

Well, the trial section was surprisingly funny, but mostly the book has been set-up thus far.

Good luck! I like this one, and I've gone through it three times, but it's probably the least Dickensian of his works (fewest comic flourishes), and some parts in the beginning and middle are really slow, but the third (and final) section... Wow.

Least Dickensian like for the first one… how fitting. Lol.I have several of his works because it was pretty much all I requested for Christmas last year. I decided on this one solely because of the famous opening, and the fact that it wasn’t 800+ pages for my first attempt.
It also might be his shortest... or that might be Hard Times which I haven't read yet. I think Barnaby Rudge is up next for me, which I plan to tackle in April or May after tax season. I'm actually itching to start it, but I have no business even trying something like Dickens when I might be working 60-70 hour weeks soon. I have a hard enough time with comic books then, ha ha.
I think Hard Times is his shortest as it's only around 250 pages in the copy I have. That said, I didn't want to start with the shortest one either.Barnaby Rudge looks like an interesting one based on the description. Interesting that it seems to be his least read novel.
I think it's least read because it's his other historical novel, and while a ton of people are interested in the French Revolution and A Tale of Two Cities, nobody today gives a damn about the Gordon Riots of 1780. I was a history major in college, and I couldn't tell you a thing about them, though I hope to be able to remedy that by this summer.
