Well everyone, it's been over a year, but I'm officially back. Don't know how many people I still remember on here, or how many people remember me, but I look forward to seeing everyone's books again and trying to update my own.

I haven't updated here in a while. It's funny. I thought this was going to be the year I read even more. I thought I would cross off classics and new books alike. Instead this is the lowest I've read since at least since 2016. I can't exactly explain why, but I've found myself literary lethargic. I haven't picked up a book in months. I'm going to try to correct that. Hope I'll be back properly soon.

This one has a very David Lynch feel to it (arguably more so than Nightvale, as in Nightvale the unexplained weirdness is so over the top and comical, where here it is threatening and just close enough to reality to make it uncomfortable). The Thistle Officer who changes her name every conversation reminds me rather unnervingly of the "Mysterious Man" from Lost Highway. I mean that in a complimentary fashion.

I tried reading this once before, but found some of the subject matter was hitting me a little hard at the time. I've decided to pick it up again as I've always been curious about it. Enjoying it much more this time.

Hello everyone. I'm still technically alive, even though it was touch and go for a bit (I'm so tired of being sick and tired), but all is looking well again. I should be back and reading/reviewing/posing comments again soon. :)

Hello everyone. Just to let you all know, I am still alive. I've been offline due to a lot of real world things and being in a bit of a reading slump. I will hopefully begin reviewing again soon. Likely a lot of picture books for a bit though as my daughter just started Kindergarten and we have to read multiple stories a day for her classes.

I’ll come back to this eventually. Let’s just say as a quick assessment that I do not like this book, will likely finish it as some point due to how short it is, but have no desire to continue.

“All right. Have it your own way. Road to hell paved with unbought stuffed dogs. Not my fault.”

No context needed. This line will be a highlight of the book for me.

Question: Do you remember the book that turned you into a reader? I don't mean the first book you ever read, but the one that made you go "I love this" and you just kept on reading afterwards?

For me it was when I was eleven and I was gifted a copy of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, which was for the longest time my go to for "favorite book" and still likely would be on my top ten.

Alright everyone, I've been going through a lot of classics, but now we're back into horror mode. Expect quite a few works of the macabre in a row now. I've been hearing a lot of positive things about this one from various sources and I'm a sucker for Creepypastas getting a bigger book release, so it seemed a natural choice for the major return to genre.

Well, this is interesting. We get an introduction to the plot involving a cult, yes, but we also get a written transcript of a lecture on neuroscience, Buddhism and the big bang in about equal portion. I don't know exactly what to make of all this yet, but I'm fascinated.

“You just finished A Tale of Two Cities and you want some MORE Dickens?”

Apparently so.

More than halfway done now. Thus far an enjoyable read. Best aspects are the side-characters and humor (which I gather are more prominent in Dickens’s other works which bodes well for me enjoying other works even more). Taking a slight break from it over the weekend but will hopefully finish it next week.

Well, the trial section was surprisingly funny, but mostly the book has been set-up thus far.

I've gotten a ton of random friend requests from people I've never interacted with, don't answer friend questions and have created their account this year. I don't mean to seem like a jerk here, but at this point if people don't answer any of the silly questions I ask, I'm denying requests. I love discussing books with people, but have zero interest in friend collectors.

Anyone else dealing with this?

I’ve been saying for years now that I needed to start reading Dickens as all I’ve read of his work prior was A Christmas Carol and some of his short stories. Time to finally start one of his novels. We’ll see how this goes. :)

So, no new updates on this one but not because I don't like it. I'm loving this one but I apparently cracked a bone in my wrist and I cannot lift this heavy book. So yeah... putting it on temporary hold and probably reading something on the kindle

I was enjoying this before, but the last chapter pretty much cemented that I love this book at this point. Very grim fantasy with a protagonist that I enjoy because he is very much not the hero everyone seems to think he is.

Taking a risk with this one. I find media spin off novels extreme hit or miss, but I’m a huge fan of Critical Role. We’ll see how it works out.

Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated.

So, sorry everyone, but yes I have been pretty much offline for around a month. I am okay, but I appreciate the people sending messages asking if I was. I was out of commission due to some real life issues I'd much rather not get into. To be fair, I also didn't read anything during this time so I had nothing to update. Expect reviews again soon.

"Reader, I think proper, before we proceed any farther together, to acquaint thee that I intend to digress, through this whole history, as often as I see occasion, of which I am myself a better judge than any pitiful critic whatever; and here I must desire all those critics to mind their own business, and not to intermeddle with affairs or works which no ways concern them..."

I'm all in for these style of humor.

Putting this on hold. It’s entertaining, but it’s just not really working for me. The book took almost have of its page count to assemble our seven leads and yet I really only feel as if I know two of them. The others have personalities that are interesting, but not developed well. Maybe I’ll be in a better mood for it later.

I’ve noticed a weird pattern for me. Every September my reading slows down and I typically finish very few books. It’s not that I’m not enjoying reading, it’s just that life always seems to get in my way a bit. Will hopefully push through it soon.

I'm halfway done with it (the page count on my edition also includes book club conversations tips so I am farther along than the update shows) and thus far I get a lot of the mixed reviews from my friends (both positive and negative). I'm intrigued enough to see it through to the end, but I'm not wowed by it yet... and I believe I know where the end is going already and if that is the case, I do not care for it.
