"All of sudden he felt like such a girl. He had to fight to keep the emotion of his partner's words at bay."
As an author of romance novels,, you get to lean into the fantasy, you get to shape the world to how you want it to be, so why not leave the toxic masculinity out of it? Why not help normalize men feeling and expressing big emotions? Instead, you reinforce it with crap like this.

"Fuck, had he already messed up calling him out like that? That was such a girl move."
Oh joy, misogyny! But it's cool when it's in an MM novel and dudes are saying it to dudes, right? WRONG. Authors, leave your internalized misogyny out of your books -- it is NOT a good look.

"It was two fifteen in the morning. Whatever. Cody should have called like he said he would. If he woke Cody's ass up, well [too bad]."
What a petulant child. This character is doing the exact opposite of making me swoon; I am actively cheering for Cody to SEE THE RED FLAG BEHAVIOUR and run far, far away from him.

"Fuck it. I'll call him again. I'll call him until he tells me to stop. Fuck that, I might still call him even after that."
I don't understand this. Are readers supposed to find this behaviour appealing? Because all I see is an MC the author wants us to like not respecting the other man's boundaries. It predatory and gross. Why do authors put male characters in situations they'd never enjoy being in themselves?

"If Cody knew what was good for him, he'd take off and call a locksmith, because if he got inside this car, Mitch planned to do everything it took to tap that hot Texas trooper's ass good and hard tonight."
What a disgusting & problematic sentiment. Your character knows the other man is too drunk to drive, but will "do everything it takes" to sleep with him. CONSENT IS A THING, ALEXANDER.

"I bought at least fifty dollars' worth of alcohol trying to loosen him up."
GROSS. One of our MCs seems to be under the impression that buying a guy drinks means that man is indebted to him and has to sleep with him and is ANNOYED when that doesn't happen. If a man did this to a woman (if real life or in a book), women would rightfully call this man a creep. It's not okay when it happens to a man either, Kindle!

I haven't read anything by this author since 2014 or 2015 (for reasons that Goodreads doesn't let reviewers mention in their reviews), but I am in desperate need of an MM cop romance, so I finally gave in. Is it a mistake? I guess we'll see.
