As much as I love Star Trek, sometimes I get frustrated with how they portray women. Valued only for their beauty, for their relevance to men, they are completely absolved of their skills unless there is a man beside them to give them “purpose”.
I flipped to check when this book was published and it was in 1973. Damn.

Fourth story is pretty lit. I do enjoy the character study on Kirk and his motivations, albeit limited in scope and word count.
I like the idea of the gaseous cloud creature, somewhat akin to the inter dimensional fart cloud from rick and morty, and it’s almost godlike powers.

I really enjoy the second story - The Ultimate Computer - for the tension and the stakes. For a short story, I felt like Kirk’s questions about how relevant his work would be if a machine can replace him, is still appropriate until today. I also like the fact that the machine isn’t evil for the sake of being evil; it was just human.
My fave story so far!!

Story one is 3⭐️s. I like the concept of powerful, ancient minds who are almost omniscient being bent to temptation by the flesh. Execution leaves much to be desired but it was sufficiently amusing.
I continue to not like Chapel and Spock together. Ugh. Spirk supremacy!
