Whole lotta convenience going on. Tackles an escaping Death Mage through a portal, gets the Skeleton Key back, oh hey he just so happens to be in the poltergeist wing now. Funny how that works out...
I just think that this series has even more wasted potential than Scholomance does. It's a shame.

As much as I thought it was stupid that Justin and Arun were becoming friendly after what had transpired in the previous book, killing him off seems incredibly unwarranted and unnecessary. What the fuck was the point of all of that, then?
Chaosbane started as a younger and more erratic version of Dumbledore. Now he's saying mate all the time. Why? It doesn't fit with his character.

Two real world references during a sex scene... sigh. Not again. Also, for being a foursome, it sure was a rushed scene. Probably going to put this series back onto the back burner after this, because it's annoying me a lot again. There's good qualities about it, but so much of it frustratingly sucks.

Chicken nuggets and Nutella? What the fuck? That sounds disgusting. Get the fuck out of here with that.
Now that Justin is going on an errand with three of the girls, it made me realize... this series has way too much hanging out with dudes. I guess there is an audience who wants to read about friendships, but nah, that's not why I'm here. Especially because they're shittily written. Needs less dudes.

Cardinal sin committed. Referenced Wookiees, but not only did they spell it wrong (one E, as most people do, which annoys me), but they didn't even capitalize it. The worst.
Not to mention that the real-world references are always terrible and supremely unnecessary. Lazy-ass writing. This was an extra terrible one.

He delayed having a sex scene with the succubus when it would've made sense, and instead shoehorned it in later where it feels... well, shoehorned in. Why wait? Zero character development between the two characters happened since then. In fact, in narrative, it's only been like an hour or two at most. They parted ways, then randomly met again and were like ok let's fuck. It makes no sense. Poorly planned writing.

Don't write a scenario if you're going to be too lazy to write a decent and believable conclusion for said scenario. Justin marches into a stone golem fighting ring, demands to wrestle two of them, and then sets a bet that they have to severely limit their wrestling if he wins. Why would they agree to any of this? They have no good reason to. But of course they do, because the story needs to move on.

Really? You're going to drag out getting with the succubus? She doesn't need to be an outright slut, I guess, but this is the one character type where it would be ok to not have as much build-up as normal. But nope, going to prolong this shit. There's so many choices this series makes that I simply do not understand.

So many things about this interaction with Arun are aggravating. Justin thinking about 'being the bigger man' - he literally is the one who started the feud by physically attacking them, and also started this convo off with an unwarranted insult. You are not the 'bigger man' by any stretch. Alura praising Justin throughout the convo is cringe. The problem is that it's played straight, and we're supposed to agree.

To not be only negative: I do still think that there are aspects of this world that are intriguing and well done. I don't totally mind reading about it a good part of the time. It's certainly better than Scholomance in that regard. (Comparing those because they are similar premises: magic schools.) But then there's shit about it that I can't stand, like all the frat nonsense.
