" What can be said at all can be said clearly, and what we cannot talk about we must pass over in silence. "

Listening to someone explain philosophy without experiencing it yourself is like watching a cooking show and expecting to taste the deliciousness through the screen. You can hear all the recipes, but until you actually step into the kitchen, chop some metaphysical onions, is a long way

" At heart we are animals, Russel. By day I was corresponding with Frege on logic, but at night, during the Brusilov Offensive, with the Russian artillery barrages exploding around me, I found myself driven toward ontological inquiry " .

So far, 1:0 in Wittgenstein vs Russel match, in language's war. It is true that language can both illuminate and confound our thoughts. Consider, for instance, the indescribable sensation of love. How can mere words encapsulate the profound emotions that stir within us ? Mm ? Hey, don't roll your eyes ! Language, as remarkable as it may be, seems futile in capturing the essence of such primal human experiences.

Now I know what Houellebecq was trying to say in his " Atomised ". But Bertrand Russel's " logical atomism "- that sought to analyze language into basic atomic units of meaning - has nothing to do with the sperm particles leaked in Houellebecq's logbook. Wittgenstein could still draw a parallel, but refrains. Why ?
