picture placement issues frequently occuring a picture may depict one fly while the text has moved on to the next fly, so I am continually having to remind myslef that fly is not the fly being spoken of now.

as I read on the flow becomes much more palatable- partly as the descriptions of the creatures become more behavioral & thus easier to envision & digest, partly becasue her writing makes the task of mentally creating a species tree quite engaging. However it is at this point that I realized she probably never had a copy editor - which explains the strange punctuation & non-sequitors.
