It’s cute but it doesn’t have the Laylah Roberts magic. Still hating the toxic parent.

Still hating the toxic parent, but Jett’s first response to Abbie is delightful. Sincerely hope there’s not too much of the toxic parent, but experience has shown me it’s often a futile wish.

Why do so many authors feel the need to write such toxic parents into their characters’ back stories. It’s even worse when the parents are front and centre shaming, belittling, and breaking down the character. There are better ways of showing bad parenting without them being so toxic. But hey, soldiering on. Go me.

This might fizzle fast since I just realised when I added this one to my currently reading that I DNFed another book by the same author. I guess I’d forgotten I hadn’t enjoyed the other book. Cross your fingers for me.
