The setting is on an island called Mystica. In the island, there are three kingdoms that are slowly dying. Each kingdom is taken over by the evil King Gius. There are a group of immortals who live in a place called the Sanctuary, which is also dying. This influences the conflict because the immortals need stones called the Kindred to save their land and the kingdoms. Humans want the Kindred to gain endless powers.

In the book, one main character, who is a princess named Cloe, is faced with a difficult problem. In the past week, her father, her sister, and the only person she has ever loved have been killed by the people who have taken over her kingdom. This character has learned to conceal her sadness and want for revenge so the enemy king still trusts her. A theme could be that you need to stay strong through difficult times.
