She’s a Sargent. I think the troops are all Sargents.
The next levels — squad leaders — are I think lieutenants.
That’s an oddly hollowed out structure.

The idea that their home star is going to expand and kill them in a few hundred years is nonsense.
A main sequence star exists for billions of years before it expands into a red giant. That stage takes millions of years.

West isn’t a character, he’s a plot device, a way of providing exposition.
Plus, after two months, I believe Adrienne would no longer be seeing “his real eye”, “his mechanical hand”. It would just be him.
