Yes, I’m still suffering through this. No, it hasn’t gotten better. In fact, it’s so terrible I may swear of this author for good. Just page after page of unfunny “banter” and the most obnoxious lead I’ve had to read in a looong time.

Whoooooooooo told the author this “banter” about which river would win in a fight was funny??? Because it’s actually incredibly close to “non-medy” and my god there’s little worse than comedy so bad it’s creating a charisma vacuum in the narrative.

I switched over to the audiobook so I can finally finish this awful book while working on things far more worthy of my time. Should I have DNF’ed it well before this point? Probably. But I want to give an honest negative review of this crime against fiction and that means soldiering through the rest of this nonsense to its undoubtedly lackluster conclusion.

Jonathan is so obviously the more interesting character here and therefore has more of my sympathy. Like, yeah, trying to juggle time with a big family can be a huge headache. And sorry not sorry but Sam is sooooo boring in comparison. Still curious to see if he ever reaches a point of self-reflection or just gets to be the uncomplicated good guy.

Agnieszka is my new favorite by virtue of being the only one with any sense around here. Though I’m also becoming more fond of Jonathan by the minute; I’m picturing like a Maxwell Sheffield type.

Sorry, those cat antics took way too long and were not that funny.

Oh noooo, Sam is the kind of manager that wants the team to be a “family.” Maybe I’m too American for this, but that’s SUCH a red flag. I’m gonna keep reading, if only because I’m curious how this will all end up.

I’m sorry if this makes me a shill for capitalism, but it’s just genuinely bad management that Brian hasn’t been fired already for property damage and gross negligence. Wild that Jonathan is seen as a bad guy for pointing out that Sam is clearly not cut out for the difficult parts of management. Curious to see if the novel resolves this in a way that doesn’t completely exonerate Sam.
