Warburton hasn't used the words narcissist, sadist, or humorous to describe Fowles, so far. Curious. And I wonder why so many british writers choose hovels to live in when (1) their spouse (always female) will have to do the majority of compromising and cleaning up and (2) they have enough money to choose better places. Thinking of Orwell and, now, Fowles.
