Doris Day and rolling bums (as in mugging the homeless) are mentioned, which is awfully old fashioned language for an 18 year old. I would assume this story was set 50 years ago, but there's also a Lexus and text messaging.

“I could spin a tale of fortune and destiny that would require many rounds before it reached the shores of credibility," ok so this is the kind of pseudo Celtic dialogue that I hate. Hope the rest of this book doesn't fall in this same style

So far the word "lest" has shown up in external dialogue and "macking" in internal dialogue. Neither are a good sign of things to come - old fashioned and over-writing.
