This was one of the first paranormal romances I read, and it didn’t impress me at the time. I’m curious to see if it improves with further context.

Wow, this really turned around =) would have enjoyed it even better, but - Present. Tense!!! Throws me off like nothing else. It's unnatural :/

So far - slow, wordy and not funny. I see absolutely no reason for this to be present tense either. 10% tho. Willing to give it a chance.

Interesting story, interesting characters, but...it's not grabbing me at all.

It's not great, but it's not awful. The trouble with world building is there is SO MUCH exposition to be done. I'm not sure this is really the best way to go about it.

What kid automatically accuses his honorary uncle/father figure of having sex with him when he is too drunk to remember? That's just not the first thought that should ever spring to his mind.

Doris Day and rolling bums (as in mugging the homeless) are mentioned, which is awfully old fashioned language for an 18 year old. I would assume this story was set 50 years ago, but there's also a Lexus and text messaging.

“I could spin a tale of fortune and destiny that would require many rounds before it reached the shores of credibility," ok so this is the kind of pseudo Celtic dialogue that I hate. Hope the rest of this book doesn't fall in this same style

So far the word "lest" has shown up in external dialogue and "macking" in internal dialogue. Neither are a good sign of things to come - old fashioned and over-writing.
