Kimberly Williams-Paisley Hi! I just saw this question. Thank you for writing and I’m sorry it took me so long! I loved reading the audiobook, but it was exhausting! I didn’t realize how much energy I had to put into it. Thank you for listening to the book, and thanks again for the question! -Kim
Kimberly Williams-Paisley Thanks for your question and for reading my book. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. I wouldn’t call PPA part of a “God wink,” necessarily, but maybe more of a nudge? I believe everything that happens in life can push us to a higher place of learning, understanding, growth, if we choose to look at it that way. I think God wants growth and healing for us, and life on earth offers many of those (often painful) opportunities. I feel the winks like a high five, a “keep going” sort of cheer from God, a sign that I’m heading in the right direction. I am glad you feel God’s strong presence in your journey with your mom. I wish for you many winks. Thanks again for writing. -Kim
Kimberly Williams-Paisley Take the dogs for a walk, get something to drink, and then try again! If that doesn't help, write something, anything, even if it's bad. Sometimes reading my bad writing kickstarts me into the good stuff.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley I love writing. I learned a lot about what happened to our family and how I felt about it as I was putting it down on paper. Writing helped me get my thoughts straight.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley Write a little bit each day. As Anne LaMott says, bird by bird.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley I'm developing a show with Hallmark. I also advocate on behalf of the Alzheimer's Association to help raise awareness about dementia.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley I had to schedule it in my calendar each day to make sure I did it, but really my passion about this story is what got me in the chair.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley I was inspired to write this book after the response I got to an article I wrote about my mother's dementia, for Redbook magazine. I realized there was a lot more I had to say about this topic, and I saw how healing it was to share the truth.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley First of all, thank you for caring for dementia patients, and probably their family members as well sometimes. We are so grateful for people like you that take on the heavy lifting after the family no longer can. It was hard writing this book, yes, but also very rewarding and healing. I hope reading it gives you further insight into the family perspective.
Kimberly Williams-Paisley Yes, what a great question. I found blessings in my mother's lack of self-awareness. For years after diagnosis, she was free and happy in ways she hadn't been before. She loved and felt with her whole, passionate heart. Now, knowing she doesn't seem to fully realize what is happening does give me some comfort.
