Emily Bex All six books in the series were planned to be released approximately six months apart. I work with a publisher, so my work has to be scheduled with all the other authors submissions, but we have done a good job of maintaining about a 6 to 7 month time period between book. Book 5 should be out mid-summer of 2021
Emily Bex I am a big fan of Anne Rice, and her advice to writers is what I have followed, and that is, write the story you want to read. I would be more drawn to lust/love, but with descriptive love scenes. Readers respond to different things; some only want inferred sex, others like a little peek, and others want explicit details. You'll find that writing sex scenes is actually quiet difficult when you have to keep coming up with something new for every scene, so try a blend of inferred, then some scenes with a little detail and a few that are explicit.
Emily Bex The third book in the series, The Medici Queen, released on July 13th. There are three more books to go and the publisher is trying to keep them on a six month release schedule. So I would anticipate book four coming out in late January/early February. Thanks for taking this journey!
Emily Bex I have been a long time fan of Anne Rice. She was the first author to tell a vampire story from the perspective of the vampire. And while some of her characters did evil things, she also had characters that felt remorse. She showed a hint of humanity in her vampires. I wanted to push that boundary even further, and toss out a lot of the accepted mythology about vampires, and have them deal with the same conflict of emotions that humans deal with.
Emily Bex I was encouraged by a friend....the same friend who patiently takes those calls when I'm stopped in my tracks by writer's block.
Emily Bex All six books of The Medici Warrior Series have been written, but books two through six will continue to go through proof-reading and edits right up to their publication date. The Medici Warriors books have a definite patriarchal dominance in the story-line, so I am currently exploring a series on witches with strong female lead characters.
Emily Bex Don't try to edit yourself as you write. It's a left brain/right brain tug of war. Write your story without worrying about spelling, punctuation, grammar, or accuracy of some details (dates, places, etc.) Let the creative aspects of the story unfold, and when you are done, give yourself some space and time. Then go back and edit. And edit. And edit. You will re-write whole sections, and toss out whole sections, until you have the story you wanted to tell.
Emily Bex I love the creative process! Once the characters have been defined, and I understand their relationship to each other, they really do come alive in your head. On the best days, they literally take over, and I let them control the journey.
Emily Bex I have a unique solution. I call a close friend who reads all my work so she is familiar with the characters and the story-line. She grabs a pen and paper while I pace the floor and talk out various scenarios and she scribbles down what I'm saying. She'll ask questions, or offer suggestions, until I feel like I'm on the right path again. She types out the notes and sends them to me as a reference so I don't forget the details.
