Goodreads asked Emily Bex:

What’s your advice for aspiring writers?

Emily Bex Don't try to edit yourself as you write. It's a left brain/right brain tug of war. Write your story without worrying about spelling, punctuation, grammar, or accuracy of some details (dates, places, etc.) Let the creative aspects of the story unfold, and when you are done, give yourself some space and time. Then go back and edit. And edit. And edit. You will re-write whole sections, and toss out whole sections, until you have the story you wanted to tell.
