Roger Andersen I would go to Narnia, Perelanda or to Middle Earth. I grew up studying Modern Mythology and always loved it.
Roger Andersen Some of the most successful writers have a formula for developing a plot and the story. I have not yet written in this way.

I write based on something that very closely connects with me. I had writer's block for 12 years between my first book and The Immigrant's Journey. Fortunately The Immigrant's Clan seems to give me similar energy.

Who knows what would be next? Maybe I will find another personal story that consumes e, or I will need to become a "formula" writer.
Roger Andersen Writing is the best thing. When it flows, it is a joyous experience. Proofreading, editing, layout, and formatting are the hardest things. Promoting a book is also hard work.

Reading great reviews about your book, speaking to clubs or at events is also very satisfying.
Roger Andersen Find a topic or story that really compels you. Write about personal experiences. In fiction, imagine people that you knew as the characters in your book.
Roger Andersen I've just started to write The Immigrant's Clan. It's not a sequel. Rather, it is about my grandmother on the other side of the family. She also immigrated alone to America. But, the story will be very different. It is a story of hardship, failed marriage, an alcoholic father, and seven children who all pulled together in Brooklyn during the Great Depression (and for many years afterwards) to support each other.
Roger Andersen The inspiration comes from an idea that really energizes you. I wrote my first book, The Executive Calling fourteen years ago. I felt compelled to write about the significance and meaning of my career.

Since then, I had writer's block until I became inspired about my Grandfather's journey.
Roger Andersen Sone cousins had done a lot of research on my grandfather's life. Then, I organized a reunion at the farm where he retired to - all surviving cousins attended, from Maine, Texas, Alaska, NJ, MN, VA, MA, and PA. We strolled around the farm all day. At the end of that day, I knew that I needed to write this story.
